In this edition of Coffee with Calyptus, we sit down with Callum Crombie, CCO and Co-Founder of Calyptus, to discuss the launch of their groundbreaking “Talent Titans” list. Focused on identifying Web3’s top employers, the list highlights organizations that prioritize innovation, culture, and career growth—beyond just market cap. Callum shares insights into how the Talent Titans aims to be resourceful to the Web3 job market.

What was the motivation behind creating the “Talent Titans” list?

It was built to help web3 folks figure out where to start or aspire to work in the industry and to celebrate the employers that put people first: their culture, career progression, innovation, everything that matters to people wanting to create a safe, secure & solid career. Most people turn to Coingecko or Coinmarketcap as their source of truth of top projects, but it’s only based on market cap, which is of course wrong.

Half the top employers in web3 do not have a token, and so amazing companies end up going under the radar without recognition. We realised we could create something valuable that our own users & the whole web3 industry could rely on for guidance and aspirations, whilst enabling all top projects (not just token projects) a way to stand out based on how they treat their teams.

How do you see this list impacting the Web3 job market?

Talent Titans Top 100 is positioned to significantly impact the Web3 job market by providing job seekers with a curated guide to the top employers in the space. For candidates, this list acts as a benchmark for identifying organisations that are setting industry standards in innovation, culture, and growth potential. For companies, it offers a competitive advantage, showcasing their ability to attract and retain top talent. Ultimately, we hope this list will foster a deeper connection between employers and talent, accelerating growth and development within the Web3

How do you plan to update and evolve the Talent Titans in the future?

We will publish the Talent Titans Top 100 list each year in September. With this year being our first, we already have a ton of ideas on how to improve for future years. Our multi-phase methodology, which includes open nominations, company interviews, community feedback from over 30k individuals and reviews from a panel of industry experts, will continue to be in use but there will be two significant changes.

  1. To increase the number of nominations from employees and users, we will lengthen the amount of time that nominations are open (from two to four months) and will encourage further sharing from those with large social followings in the industry.
  2. We will ensure that we speak with every single Employer on the list & have a clear and published methodology of how they are being ranked on these calls - this will enable a more in-depth understanding of each employer and further improve the legitimacy of the list.

We’d love to hear your feedback on our methodology (accessible here: https://www.calyptus.co/talent-titans).

What feedback have you received from companies or candidates regarding the Talent Titans list so far?

So far, the feedback from both companies and candidates has been overwhelmingly positive. Companies appreciate the recognition and validation it provides, as it highlights their efforts in fostering strong work environments and pushing the boundaries of innovation. Job seekers have found the list to be a valuable resource for identifying career opportunities and understanding which companies are leading in the space. The list has already sparked conversations within the industry about the future of talent in Web3, and we’re excited to see how it continues to influence hiring trends and company growth.
