In this edition of Coffee with Calyptus, we have Alex Taylor, Head of Sales at Skale Labs, whose journey in crypto began in 2015 and evolved into a mission to simplify blockchain for everyone. Alex shares how his passion for social impact and innovative business models led him to champion a platform that removes not only gas fees but also other traditional barriers. Join us as we explore the secrets behind Skale Labs' approach to growth.

What’s your story into crypto and Skale Labs?
I've been in the space passively since about 2015, originally having become keen on crypto because of its unparalleled ability to create seamless payment rails across the globe without the friction points of traditional finance. However, what really got me active is the dapps that were being built on top of ETH, and now on the entire L1-L3 ecosystem of successors we see today.
Blockchain technology, in my mind, is the next logical step for almost all industries with a digital footprint, so when I exited my first company, Hopeful, I immediately began searching for ways to get directly into the action. Once I found SKALE and its revolutionary tech, the rest is history.
What do you find is the biggest selling point of Skale when landing new partners or clients?
Blockchain, until SKALE hit the scene, was almost universally a pain in the ass to enter for a layperson. Multiple wallets, gas fees, congestion, security concerns - it was just an unreasonable ask that there is mass adoption of a technology with so many barriers to entry.
SKALE gets rid of that. No gas fees, pooled security, and unparalleled speed. We function how most new technologies successfully Cross the Chasm - by combining what worked in the past (a familiar SaaS business model to keep costs consistent, ability to abstract out wallet creation and other traditional learning curves) with the new future.
What was the most difficult learning curve as a sales professional joining Web3 & Skale?
It's really fascinating how extraction is the predominant feature of the crypto space as it relates to sales. Unfortunately, a significant amount of developers are not familiar with traditional business practices, and so rely on grant farming to fuel their dapp growth, rather than usage or revenue.
As a salesperson, that means you are doing a very significant amount of:
(A) Qualifying whether projects are truly serious about their products
(B) Coaching them on how to be sustainable
SKALE, outside of the technology, succeeds largely because we STRONGLY emphasize support for our projects from the first conversation all the way to post-launch, making sure we are sharing best practices at all times.
As an ex-social impact founder, and a speaker, how did Skale Labs or crypto in general align with your values?
SKALE was the next logical step for me when I thought about what got me into crypto. By eliminating gas fees in an extremely fast and secure environment, SKALE has the potential to power some of the most powerful social impact dapps in the world.
